Beer Events This Week in MI

Date November 20, 2007

People who drink light “beer” don’t like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot.
– Capital Brewery, Middleton, WI

One thing I planned on doing with this blog is to let everyone share in events that are going on around the state. There are a few events that I will list down below but all these events are over shadowed by the big event this week which is of course Thanksgiving. Yes, I consider Thanksgiving a Beer Event. It is a chance for us beer snobs to share our love of craft beer by introducing family members to craft beer. This year we are bringing Sarah’s home-brew to the family gathering. It is a pumpkin beer and should go great on a Thanksgiving table.

Begin by offering them a small taste of any beer you bring and always bring enough so that if they say, “I like that” you can offer them a full glass or bottle. They may enjoy it enough to buy a six pack of maybe even learn to brew their own one day. Yes it is a little like being a pusher. Which leads me to this warning which only applies to craft beers that can be expensive. You more than likely have that one relative that will take advantage of your generosity by taking way more beer than you are willing to give. This type of person only wants your beer because it is a free buzz. You must have a plan to avoid this situation. When said person goes for a second beer use the barter system and trade him one of his beers for one of yours. Don’t worry, this person wants to give up their Nat Light less than you want to drink it. The worst thing that can happen is that he will do the trade one time but he definitely won’t be back for another.

Here are some of the events going on in the State of Michigan off of Beer Advocate and MBG web-site. The Sherwood BC event sounds like the most fun out of the following.

I identify incredibly well with this post. I’m bringing my recently finished pumpkin ale to share with family members this Thanksgiving, and am hoping that my brother will find it to be as good as the micro pumpkin ales we sipped when fall began. It’s a great season, and I’m still convinced the best beers are brewed this time of year. Prost!
