Short’s Article
April 22, 2008
I rate my Michigan breweries with unique categories. Some of the categories are… the breweries I want to live walking distance from, within short driving distance and worth an occasional visit. The highest rating I give a brewery is when I want to live above it in some sort of Fonzie type apartment. Short’s in Bellaire is one of the breweries where I want to live above the place. If you love Short’s as much as I do here is an article from the Traverse City Record that might interest you.

ELK RAPIDS — Brewing up a popular pub in a quaint northern Michigan village would be a success story for many.
But for Joe Short of Short’s Brewing Co., his thriving brew pub and restaurant in downtown Bellaire is only the first chapter of his professional biography. Now he’s setting up shop in another Antrim County village — Elk Rapids — to significantly increase production of his hand-crafted beers and expand distribution in Michigan and beyond.

I have to admit that I worry when a brewer gets “too big”.
I’m not sure exactly the level of production that represents. Goose Island went from my favorite place (when they just had their Clybourn location), to a place to avoid after being partially sold to an AB affiliate.
I also long for the days of “beer tastings” at 3 Floyd’s (before the brewpub). You got five bottle caps, growlers of most everything, and Nick Floyd would pour the beer.
So I’m begging all of you to keep Hideout a secret
