Beer Lovers: “Beware of Global Warming”

Date April 12, 2008

Okay all you beer loving climate change skeptics out there. (Okay… at least those of you who believe climate change is real but don’t care because you don’t believe that humans are part of the problem. Those of you who don’t believe it exists at all have probably already disregarded this post anyway.) Listen up because this concerns you.    As if the hop shortage wasn’t bad enough…The price of beer is likely to rise in coming decades because climate change  is expected to  hamper the production of  malting barley. Apparently New Zealand and Austrailia will be the hardest hit but it is expected that the effects will be felt world wide.

Here are some other thoughtful perspectives on this potentially devastating blow to the brewing industry.  Thanks Rob for  passing them along. :-)

Those onion comments cracked me up - especially: “Doesn’t affect me. I was born a butterscotch-schnapps man, and I’ll die a butterscotch-schnapps man.”

    hahaha..

I think that guy complaining about his neighbor lives right next door to me.

Graham Sanders (Craftbrewer Podcast from Australia) talked about this a couple episodes ago. This may hurt many brewers, however those who are making the best beer out there will survive. Think about it this way: $100 will buy you a very good bottle of wine. $15 will buy you the worlds BEST beer.

Beer: Still the best bargain out there!

The most expensive commodities (per ounce) are ink for your printer and Viagra :-))

Perhaps, but one beer won’t last four hours!

Sadly, it seems like most ink cartridges don’t last more than four hours either.
