Beer on Science Friday
May 21, 2008
Everyone reading this knows that I like craft beer. Well, I also like to listen to podcasting and when you put them together it is a great combination. There is a lot of great podcast shows about beer such asBrew Bubbas from right here in Michigan. I don’t just listen to shows about beer and don’t be shocked but I do have other interest. One of my favorite weekly shows/podcast is Science Friday. Last Friday in honor of Craft Beer Week they dedicated an hour segment to beer. The guest were… Â
Russ Klisch                       Â
President and Founder
Lakefront Brewery
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
 Lyn Kruger
President and Chief Operating Officer
Siebel Institute of Technology
Chicago, Illinois
Kirby Nelson
Brewmaster
Capital Brewery
Middletown, Wisconsin
David Ryder
Vice-president of Brewing, Research and Quality Assurance.
Miller Brewing Company
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Robin Shepard
Interim Vice Chancellor for University of Wisconsin Extension
Associate Professor, Life Sciences Communication
University of Wisconsin, Madison
Author, “Wisconsin’s Best Breweries and Brewpubs,” (University of Wisconsin Press, 2001)

My only complaint is about David Ryder and his statement that all beer is best when it is served fresh. I disagree and there are plenty of beer that is best served with some aging. Click here for the link to the show.

They also went to the wrong state for “beer experts”. We all know they reside in Michigan!

One of my favorite beer people is Kirby Nelson. Every time I’m in Madison, WI I visit Kirby. He always lets me walk free in the brewery sampling whatever I want and he’s even let me help him brew! I had the privilege of interviewing Kirby and used in in Episode #35:

That edition of Science Friday was AWESOME . . . although I have to agree with your observation on the comment made by David Ryder. I have a 4-year-old wheat wine in my cellar that is amazing!
Keep up the great work on the blog! You guys are doing a great job!!!
