Beer Events October 20th to 26th

Date October 21, 2008

There are some great events this week. I do want to push one in particular which is the Slow Food event at Motor City Beer Works. First of all Motor City Beer Works is one of my favorite places for beer. The great music, pizza and beer combined with a great atmosphere makes it one of Detroit’s great places. Top it off, you have Rex Halfpenney talking about beer. We have been to a few of these things and have really enjoyed the beer, food and company. Please do yourself a favor and attend.

I noticed that New Holland is having a special beer release on the 23rd. It is their Blue Sunday project, a sour beer. I love sour beers! Also great job on who named the beer. A great reference to the blue law that prevents them from selling beer at the brewery on Sunday.

October 21, 2008; Goose Island @ Ashley’s 7-9 pm Ashley’s Ann Arbor Featuring Goose Island beers, Bourbon County Stout, Matilda, and Honker’s Ale

October 23, 2008; New Holland Cabin Fever Release Party at Hopcat 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Hop Cat is having Cabin Fever release party , New Holland’s Winter seasonal brown ale. There will be special pourings of their sour beer project Blue Sunday. And there will be draft specials on Icabod.

October 25 2008; Slow Foods Event at Motor City Brewing Works 2pm-5pm. Rex from Michigan Beer Guide will talk about the history of brewing in Detroit. MCBW will be featuring a Pizza Bar and Dessert Bar where everything will be made using local Michigan and Greening of Detroit ingredients. Sample tastes of meads, ciders and beers. Cost TBD. Go to: http://www.slowfood-detroit.org/ for info on ticket price and reservations or call Rex at 248.628.6584

October 25 2008 Kuhnhenn All Hallows Ale Release Party. Pumpkin carving contest $100.00 gift certificate first place! Dan the Smokin’ man’s BBQ.

October 26 2008 Liberty Street Haunted Block Party and Brewery Pre-Opening Tours. Plymouth Old Village Association fund raiser. Bring the kids for costume contests, trick or treats, live music and games in the street. www.libertystreetbrewingcompany.com

Awesome to see a new brewery opening in Michigan — I’ll have to head up to Plymouth once it is open!

Yeah, I wish I could make that event on Sunday. I have emailed Joe Walters back and forth and he seems like a great guy with a passion for brewing. Just the type of person that I want to see making the beer I am drinking.

Thanks for the list! Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to one or two of these events. I couldn’t find any info on the Slow Foods event on their website, but I’ll check back later in the week.

My husband went to the Liberty Street’s pre-pre opening for brewing club members…I am still hearing about how awesome it was :) Something about a special chocolate-hot pepper beer someone had brewed.

Speaking of Hop Cat, I read Jnaz’s Twitter post re: this bar last night, right before bed. I dreamt about being at Hop Cat, but I have never been there, so instead it just looked like Founders, but with, uh, signs that said Hop Cat :) Beer dreams are nice, though.

Didn’t Rex say the Slow Food event was canceled?

    Yes he did, John:
    Hi all,

Just a quick note to tell you that the event I was doing with Slow Foods Detroit at Motor City Brewing Works on Saturday the 25th has been canceled.

    Rex

That’s strange, it’s still has it up on the MBG event calendar. It’s a shame, it would have been a great time.

If you want to go to a great beer event this weekend make it Liberty Haunted Block Party.
