Jolly Pumpkin finally gets its Pumpkin Ale
October 8, 2008
[1pm Update: According to AllAboutStout at RateBeer, "Unfortunately this will be a brewery only release. The label approval didn’t get done on time. These should be released at the end of October early November at the brewery." Nothing official from the brewery yet but posters generally don't just make stuff up!] – More here.

I’m wearing a big pumpkin grin and I think there is a tear in my eye. This is good news.

Hee hee…I live 8 miles away from the brewery. Will be making the, oh, 12-minute trip over when this is released…

I ordered a La Roja last night at the Oak. The guy looked at me, sighed and said in a robotic voice.. “ok. you do understand jolly pumpkin is just the name of the company, this is NOT a pumpkin flavored beer…” He must say that a lot. I think the name really throws people off.. I mention the brewery to beer drinkers and the first thing they say is “I don’t like pumpkin beers”.. haha. Oh well. Cool to see a pumpkin release.. someone PLEASE keep us updated on the release date.. we’ll definitely have to make the trip from Monroe to buy several of these.

A friend called the brewery on Friday (10/31) and they said it’s not true.

It is very, very good beer, my friends. Get some while you can!

Spencer, not sure who you talked to – I went to the brewery and had a long chat with them about it. Also, I see folks have already had it.. so it has to be true! From what the folks on Craft Beer in Mi say, it’s on tap at Ashleys as we speak. woohoo! Time to make a trip to Ann Arbor.

Maybe the confusion is whether you can go to the brewery and BUY the beer, which you CANNOT, because they didn’t bottle any. TeacherPatti and I were at the brewery on the 31st, and tried it, and I was at Ashleys when it went on tap Saturday night. They also have the Blanca with Hibiscus flowers on tap to try (at the brewery) which is also not in bottles at this time. I believe Ron said maybe next year for the pumpkin beer in bottles.

I took a quick trip up to ann arbor tonight, my destination was Corner for my Velvet Hammer.. but I swung by Ashleys to try this new JP release. Parking is a bitch in a2 might I add. Anyhow, the beer at first, didn’t have too much of a smell to it. The taste at first was a thin bodied, very little spice, but a nice sour JP style beer. As the beer sat and warmed a bit, I started to smell some spice to it, and even tasting a bit more to it. I was Ashley’s (loud and distracting), so trying to concentrate on the smell, flavors, etc. was tough. But I dug it. It was a very easy drinking beer, and I wanted another.. but it was time to go get my velvet hammer.
