Fourth Annual Event to be Held Outside at Fifth Third Ballpark, February 28

( EAST LANSING , MICH ) – As many as 200 craft beers from more 30 Michigan micro-breweries and brewpubs will be available for sampling at the 2009 Michigan Winter Beer Festival, sponsored by the Michigan Brewers Guild. The fourth annual event runs from Noon to 5pm on Saturday, February 28, at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park , just north of downtown Grand Rapids .

“We’re excited to be back in Grand Rapids for our winter celebration,” says Scott Graham, Executive Director of the Michigan Brewers Guild. “This year, we’re setting up in the right field parking lot with a series of tents, an entertainment stage, food station and a bonfire to help keep everyone warm – weather permitting.”

Tickets for the Michigan Winter Beer festival – which include admission and 12 tasting tokens – are $35 each in advance and are available online at www.michiganbrewers guild.org, at the Fifth Third Ballpark box office and at participating Guild member breweries and select retail outlets. The event is expected to sell out, as it did last year. If any tickets remain, they will be available at the gate the day of, for $40 each.

Special entertainment for the 2009 Winter Festival includes Delilah Dewylde and the Lost Boys, a local West Michigan band with a “severe honky tonk” sound.

The Winter Beer Festival will also be as eco-friendly as possible, an initiative started by the Guild in July at its Summer Beer Festival in Ypsilanti, which was successful in reducing waste to landfills to just 15%.

Michigan’s thriving brewing industry contributes over $24 million in wages with a total economic contribution of more than $133 million. In terms of overall number or breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs, Michigan ranks #6 in the nation – thus supporting its claim as “The Great Beer State.”

The Michigan Brewers Guild exists to unify the Michigan brewing community; to increase sales of Michigan-brewed beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness and consumer education; and to monitor and assure a healthy beer industry within the state.
