Diabetes/Alzheimers Fundraiser @ Original Gravity
April 6, 2009
One of the great aspects of a local brewery is the sense of community that the good ones have. That is on full display this Saturday at Original Gravity where there will be a Team T1D fundraiser supporting the American Diabetes Association and the Alzheimer’s Association. Diabetes hits close to home for friend and fellow blogger Patti Smith. Her beer blog can be found at http://maykhlbirs.blogspot.com/. Since Patti is passionate about this cause I’ll let her tell you about the event:
In my mind, every cause that involves beer is a good one, even if it just involves the cause of enlightening my taste buds. But this time, there is a cause that I think we can all agree needs addressing–diabetes.
One of the two topics on which I will not budge (can you guess the other?
) is on stem cell research. I am adamantly, 100% in favor of it. I will never understand how anyone can think that you are doing harm when you are in fact discovering cures for millions. As some know, Jeff has Type 1 diabetes and has for almost 30 years. If the delay of funding for stem cells ultimately means that his life is shortened by even one half second, I will not be someone you want to deal with. Take my word on that one.
Anywho! The Original Gravity in Milan is having a diabetes fundraiser this Saturday, April 11th. All proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association and the Alzheimers Association.
Regardless of whether you agree with me on the stem cell issue (and like I said, it’s one of two topics I don’t even like to discuss because I become very irritated very quickly), please come on down. This is cheesy as hell, but I’m going to say it–the life you save may be your own (or someone you love)

Unfortunately not, I am on call starting this Friday. Being on call next week is a real sore subject with me because of how I got stuck with it. Anyway, I hope they have a great turn out and I wish I could be there.
Sarah is dying to know what is the other topics you won’t budge on.

Rob sent me the Spokedrunkies myspace link. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/spokedrunkies. Now, I’m really angry that I can’t make it! It sounds like a great time will be had by all.
