Job opening in the beer department – Merchant’s Dearborn

Merchant’s Fine Wine, Dearborn, is looking for a part-time sales associate for the beer department.

Here’s the info:

HOURS
Friday 3-9PM, Saturday 11AM-7PM, Sunday noon-5PM. No negotiation on these shifts, but the department manager can cover a Friday night or Saturday once in a while.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Answerable to Annette May- beer department manager, and to the store owners and general manager.
Service customers in the beer department.
Stocking and pricing of Rave Associates beer delivery on the Friday shift.
Keep floor and fridge stocked.
Occasional deliveries in the store’s van.
Covering breaks in the bottle return room. (We have an employee covering every shift in the bottle room.)
Covering cashier breaks, and helping cashier during busy spells. You have to learn the register system. If a cashier was to call in sick and the beer department was quiet, you might have to spend more time cashiering. Or if the lines at the register get too long you would be called to help cashier until it settles down.
After some initial training you will work alone in the beer department. You need to cover the times when the department manager is not there.

WHO I’M LOOKING FOR
I want someone with some beer knowledge and passion rather than someone who just has retail experience. We have 1008 beers in this department and after a reasonable amount of time you will need to know them all. You have to like “working with people” because working with customers can be difficult sometimes, and a nice sales associate is conducive to having customers come back. I don’t want a person who just thinks it’s cool to work in a beer department and I don’t want someone who wants to sell their favourite beer or an “extreme-dude” IPA to every customer. You must be able to recommend beers based on what the customer wants and not just what you like.

RENUMERATION
Basic shop-assistant wages, but it’s up to you to discuss this with the store’s owner. As it’s part-time, other benefits are unlikely.
