Michigan Beer Toast May 11th @ 6pm
April 5, 2009
I want to try to start the Michigan Beer Toast again this year. Last year May 11th fell on Mother’s Day so that made it harder for me to promote the toast. I didn’t want my mom to find out I was planning a beer event on her day. Of course there is no way she
would have read about it on my blog but someone might have clued her in.
I found all this information out at my local library reference center by looking through the 1933 Monroe Evening News’ microfilms. Here is an excerpt from last year’s post about the Michigan Beer Toast.
One interesting fact is that Michigan ratified the 21st Amendment on April 10, 1933 but still remained a dry state for another month. That is until May 11, 1933 at 6pm when beer went on sale for the first time in about 15 years. 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of that event and I would like to celebrate this fact. What do you think of a state wide MI beer toast at 6pm on May 11th? I know it’s a ridiculously tall order for a small blog but if we make it a yearly event maybe it will eventually catch on. If you are at all interested in a toast, please pass it on to your favorite watering hole and/or publican. Thank you.
Here are the other stories that I posted on this subject.

Count me in!! Maybe we should email around to beer folks in the state to see if they’d join us (kalamabrew and breweries, maybe even the guild).. Now, what beer to toast with.. my homebrew MaiBock might be ready by then!!

Thanks my people. I knew I could count on you two.
Rob, are you splitting that batch so that we can have Cinco de Mai bock on Cinco de Mayo? All it would need is some jalapenos during kegging.
