Monroe Homebrewing Club – Muskrat Mashers

Date April 10, 2009

Muskrat Mashers Homebrew Club
Wednesday April 29th
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Harbor Inn & Ale
13993 Laplaisance Rd – Monroe, MI

Details: We don’t officially have a “club” formed just yet.  This meeting will be the first, to see if there’s actually any interest in forming a homebrew club in Monroe.  If we get enough people interested, we’ll make these monthly meetings and register our group with the American Homebrewers Association.

Monthly meetings might consist of discussions on various topics, such as, a beer style;  how it’s made, what hops to use, etc.   Another topic might be cleaning techniques.  Another, might be an actual brew session.  Our first meeting, we’ll probably discuss some very basics on making beer and what it takes to get into the hobby.

Who should attend? Anyone interested in the hobby!  The one thing I’ve found about the homebrewing community:   everyone is very friendly and helpful.  Homebrew club meetings are for novices to experts.

We look forward to learning, sharing and meeting people interested in homebrewing.  If you have any ideas for the group, questions or comments, please contact us at:  MuskratMashers@Gmail.com

*Edit:  Because we are having the first meeting at a restaurant, please do NOT bring any homebrew.  Harbor Inn & Ale has a nice variety of Michigan Beer on tap.

Sounds like a good time tell Frank at Harbor Inn to have some IPA on tap for the meeting.

This sounds like a great Idea! I have wanted to join a homebrew club for a while now, I just don’t want to have to drive 45 min to get to one.

I wish I could make it to the meeting, but I have class this week. But count me in as interested

Is this open to those of us just south of the border (Maumee) as well? I’ve been wanting to get involved with a homebrew club in the area… finally have some space to start growing hops (although I think I might be too late for this season!).

I’m planning on making the trip up from Temperance for the meeting. I just had the Bell’s Porter there last week. I’m a total newb who bought a book years back but have yet to take the plunge. I keep telling myself once my daughters are older I’ll have more time to pursue it. ;)

Kevin, I got your invite on my garage door and I am VERY interested in a local homebrew club. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it Wed. Night due to my work schedule as we are not quite done with the Fermi outage. Please keep me informed on future meetings. I look forward to hearing some good news.

This sounds like a great idea. I’ve wondered how much interest we’d get around the Monroe area. Kathy and I are planning to be there.

Kevin, I attended big brew day at Adventures last sat.,the 2nd and met a person named Randy who said he was at your 1st meeting, I’m interested in attending your next meeting. I’ve been brewing a couple of years and attended a brewing class back in march at Michigan Brewing Co.(awesome!) great people up there…they served breakfast and lunch which was included with the class ,price was only $15.00! They talked about possibly holding another class in June. Please let me know when your next meeting is. Thanks, Art DeSmet

Greetings Art DeSmet. Sorry for butting in to your discussion here, but I am looking for the Art DeSmet who was a student at Catholic Center High School in Detroit. If that’s you (or your father) and you read this, contact me at casmith@ksu.edu. Thanks.

When’s the next meeting going to be? I’m in the process of getting a few kegs to convert and would like recommendations on what to get for my boil kettle. I might make a trip up to AiB next week since I’m off work to get some advice…

Oh and Rob, thanks for the heads up on the rhizomes at Titgemeiers… I planted a couple Cascade and Mt. Hood ones, and am waiting for them to poke through the dirt before running around to figure out some sort of trellis system before they get too big. =)
