Motor City Brew Tours: The Inaugural Voyage

Date May 31, 2009

“I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”  - Homer Simpson

I have met some of the best people through the CBiM group and I would put Stephen Johnson in that catagory. He is a fun guy who always great to talk bus1to and has a love for craft beer. He has found a way to use all those attributes to start his own brewery tour business. It’s name is Motor City Brew Toursand you can become a facebook member by following this link http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=84085220939. Below in his words is a little about their inaugural voyage.

One thing I think they need is a beer related name for the bus. I would either go with Weizen Bus or the Hoppy Prankster.

My buddy and I are starting up a brewery tour business. We are testing to see how well it is received on June 20th from 11am to 4pm leaving from Royal Oak on our 30 person bus. This is the inaugural tour of Motor City Brew Tours. Our tour will start with a visit to Sherwood Brewing in Shelby Township, where we will tour the brewing facility, enjoy some beer samples and have lunch. The next stop will take us to Rochester Mills Brewing Company in Rochester for another tour and beer samples. Our final stop will take us to King Brewery in Pontiac or another yet to be determined brewery for more beer samples and yet another amazing tour of the facility. Reservation fee includes: bus transportation (to and from specified parking area in Royal Oak, MI), water and snacks on the bus, lunch at one of the breweries, brewery tours and beer samples. We will also throw in some food and beer deals from all the breweries on the tour to get you to come back for more.

The master plan is to create a whole series of tour routes containing 3-4 breweries per tour.

Cheers! – Stephen Johnson

That is a great idea!! Thanks for posting.

And I have also met so many great people at CBiM. Also, as of this morning, I’ve finally met in person all of the Beer Buzz folks!!

My husband and I had the privilege of joining Stephen Johnson and his wife at an annual beer festival in Frankenmuth, Michigan a few years back. The guy really knows his beer! As beer drinkers, we were excited about the festival. However, we were novices at choosing the brands of brew to fit our tastes and preferences. Steve was an expert at guiding us to the brews that we enjoyed most and I’m certain that the experience was better for us because we had his knowledge to rely on. Needless to say, we plan on attending the first outing of Motor City Brew Tour and we’re confident that our beer guru Steve will provide an excellent experience featuring the best brews of East Metro Detroit. If you’re in the area, and you love beer, it’s pretty much a no-brainer.
