Read This Post or the Puppy Gets It

Filed under: The Great Dog Search 2008, out and about in Bedford — Robin Dec @ 9:19 am

Congratulations to Temperance Animal Hospital for 30 years in business. They held an open house today. I may have mentioned this before, but my daughter is a bit of a horse/puppy freak and has insisted (for about 2 years now), that she’s going to be a horsie vet. I get that we’re a long way off from those types of decisions, but she’s steadfast for now. While driving to the car wash, I decided to take her over.

She had a WONDERFUL time. The highlight was peforming Teddy Bear surgery.  With the help of one of the real live veterinarians, she selected a wounded stuffed puppy from a basket and got to assist in sewing it back up. Meanwhile, whoever’s running around Temperance slicing up stuffed animals needs to be stopped :) She hasn’t put the thing down since. Our new stuffed puppy’s name is Sugar Creme Cakes (catchy). Here she is feeling much better.

Photobucket (Er…and in case you think I’m trying to be like Michael Jackson…I get that a lot…They gave all of the kids surgical masks and hats to wear).

Sooo, I of course polled some of the experts regarding what type of doggie might be best for us (recall, low shedding, medium to small sized, good with kids are our current parameters). I mostly got a “good luck with that.” Kidding. Poodle mix still seems to be the advice of choice.

Anyway, kudos again to the great folks at T.A.H. We never did make it to the car wash.

  1. very cute pic. are those surgical scrubs too ;) The folks at TAH are terrific. They sent ME a sympathy card when my husband had one of our cats put down. (that’s a long story, but the sympathy card was a nice touch).

“Poodle” anything sends shivers down my spine. My grandparents had a poodle when I was little. I’m sure it was the dog, not the breed, but poodles are kind of like clowns to me–I have nightmares about them. This dog, Pepi, was about as sneaky nasty as they come. He wasn’t mean, but he was a bully. Every home movie we have with him and my little sister (she’s in her 40’s now, but she’ll always be my little sis) shows him going out of his way to knock her over knock her over just because he was bigger. And I distinctly recall him looking at us and lifting his leg on the freshly painted walls at my parents’ house, we think out of pure spite. But like I said, probably that particular dog, not the breed. I’ll stick w/that FurReal!

  2. Great pic! Of course, teddy bears have to yucky bodily fluids … for the pet, two words for you: hairless cats. Oh, and we do know those particular hairless cat breeders. Er, not that Brad or Duane are hairle … ummm … never mind … ;-)

  3. Nah Phyllis, those are cloud PJs. I did not have the forethought to bring my camera to the actual event so we had to recreate it later. (Which prompted my daughter to say, “Can I take this monkey suit off yet?”)

Ha LPC, I’m fairly sure that my husband would require me to neuter HIM before he would allow a hairless cat into our home.

  4. Very cute pic…I wish I would’ve known about the TAH celebration. Lola wants to be a Vet and I met Paula this fall at the homecoming game and she said “bring her in”–haven’t done that yet, but looks like we missed out on an exciting afternoon :)

Here’s the thing with poodles…..I’m allergic to them like none other. Far worse than cats! Which is shocking. I have a golden retreiver and a yellow lab–no allergies here. But when I had my allergy tests the results showed poodles were my worst reaction. Apparently, their dander is very ….irritating. So caution to the Dec’s with poodles, may be o.k. with cats or other breeds of dogs, and poodles could totally screw it up. Enter with caution ;)
