8 Finalists Compete. 1 Girl is Mind Melded with Randy Jackson.
We are down to our final eight. It is Idol Gives Back Week. Our kids are singing “inspirational” songs.
Michael Johns - Singing Dream On. He’s great, of course, but in the opening strains of this…I’m just thinking, does everything have to be so epic w/ this guy? Cheryl, I know you want him to be your boyfriend and all, but enough w/ the angst. (uh oh, I might be crabby again tonight, buckle up).
Meanwhile…when Paula says, “My chihuahuas are going to come on stage w/ you.” Is she talking about her cans? ‘Cuz they have a life of their own tonight and are scaring me a little. Oh…back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Syesha Mercado singing I Believe. HUGE mistake right off the bat singing a Fantasia song. The judges are going to hate this in the same way they hated her trying to be Whitney Houston last week. These chicks need to read my blog already. Yep, judges take, “Fantasia is special, you are not.” Harsh. True.
Jason Castro singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow (the Hawaiian ukulele version). All righty, pep it up Jason. There’s really nothing NOT to like about this guy. This for me, is one of his best performances.
K/Christy Lee Cook. Singing Anyway. First off, I hope she loses her attitude from last week. I found her snarky and unappealing (which is funny…’cuz you’d think I could respect that). Ok, she looks just like my Golden Dream Barbie from 1980. She’s either going to get the country fan vote or not. She’s done all she can do and if she doesn’t go this week, she’ll go next.
David Cook singing Innocent (I love this song). Hmmm. I think he’s struggling a little bit with this one. Paula and her chihuahuas are rockin’ it out though. That’s a good sign. His voice wasn’t great, but I’ll give him a pass based on past performances. I can’t imagine him going home.
Carly Smithson singing The Show Must Go On (love this song too). Gawd I love her. I agree w/ Simon’s advice from last week. Carly needs to start dressing for this show. This is Idol, not a smoky backroom of a bar (though hmm…Simon seemed to like her outfit…I did not). The judges want her to happy it up.
David Archuletta singing Angels. Oh gawd. David A. singing an inspirational song. If he sings some weirdass song about guns again, my head’s going to explode. Ok, he’s playing the piano, that might be a good choice. What IS this song though? Whatever. I’m over him even though I was never really under him. Call me an Idol Scrooge.
Brooke White singing You’ve Got a Friend. I’m thinking Carole King is a good choice for her. She really is a young version of Carole King, IMHO. I’m just saying, I’ve got fashion issues tonight, but I think my grandma had a couch in her davenport upholstered w/ the same material as Brooke’s dress. Anyway, Brooke sounds great. It’s just going to be a matter of whether voters are inspired enough to pick up the phone.
Ugh. All in all, I’m kind of underwhelmed by Inspiration Week. The people I liked (Carly, David C., Brooke), I basically liked because of past performances. Not tonight’s. My prediction for bottom three…Syesha and Christy. For the third, I predict a shocker of some sort. Perhaps Michael.
Dec out.

seems like everyone is all over the board on who did well last night based on your review and the news outlets’ review. Syesha was, however, universally panned–mainly for her attitude. I think Jason, not Kristy Lee, belongs in the bottom 2. I kept having visions of Tiny Tim while he was performing (long unkempt hair and all), and maybe the words matched the version he was copying, but I kept thinking that he forgot the words because they were SOOO off the actual song!. And I have to say, I’ve only actually watched the past 2 weeks, and Brooke just does nothing for me.
Love Carly (although I agree w/Simon–she didn’t sound inspirational, but she did sound awesome!). Love Michael–he started off rough but I do see him as a rocker. Love David C although his performance last night went between moments of brilliance and moments of WTH??. David A has a great voice and will have a nice career on Broadway but I can’t see him going all the way.
I think it’s bye-bye Syesha! (and I agree with you, Paula’s girls looked like they were trying to run away from home)

I’m kind of codependently worried about David C. He was apparently suffering from stress-related blood pressure issues and I guess his brother is sick. It sounded like it was getting to him last night.

He did look like he wasn’t feeling well/was very tired and pale. He’s awfully young to be dealing with HBP! How would he handle the pressure of a tour if he won??
You need to check out the Reality Check on FoxNews (I know I should link–not sure how to do it in comments). She is pretty much in agreement w/you and her take on Syesha is pretty interesting.
At least Adam is gone on DWTS. Next week will be Marissa or Priscilla–then we can get on to the real competition.
Comment by phyllis — April 9, 2008 @ 11:30 am
ooooh, I hope Priscilla stays at least one more week. I can’t put DTWS in my rotation until Biggest Loser is done.

They are showing complete episodes on abc.go.com
Mrs. Elvis was in the bottom 2 last night, which I don’t understand because she has actually danced very well. Carrie Ann busted her for an “illegal lift” the other night and that lowered her judges’ score.
Can’t watch BL. I was addicted to Celebrity Fit Club for a couple of seasons, but then Dustin Diamond (Screech) got on and made it unwatchable. I’d probably sit on the couch w/a bag of chips or bowl of ice cream, which would just be wrong. Don’t feel as guilty about that with AI or DWTS.

I have to say I just couldn’t get into AI last night. I know I know, shocking….but I just wasn’t feelin it.
The only performance that I liked (go figure Robin) was Michael Johns. I don’t want to do him, but I sure loooove his accent!
Paula’s “girls” were disturbing and so were her comments to my boyfriend! CREEPY
Its still on the DVR maybe…just maybe I’ll watch before tonite.

Wow. You called that one. I am SHOCKED. It should have been Syesha!
Comment by phyllis — April 10, 2008 @ 9:08 pm
I am in complete disbelief, there are 3 other people that shouldn’t be there and still are Saeysha, Kristy and Jason Castro……..you’ve got to be kidding me they stayed over MJ. Complete BS, at least he’ll get a head start on his career because he WILL be a success.
Comment by Cheryl — April 10, 2008 @ 10:17 pm
Man…and I was all ready to dub him “Cheryl’s Boyfriend” for the rest of the season. Dang! Syesha needs to go, go, go! If Jason performs like he did this week, I can deal w/ him for another week or two. Also…I think my Carly’s days are numbered. She just can’t seem to get beyond that “angry/desperation” vibe.

Maybe if they changed the voting to “who would you like to see LEAVE” rather than “who would you like to see stay” the results would be different. I’m thinking people thought he’d be safe and didn’t vote…
Comment by phyllis — April 11, 2008 @ 11:27 am
Probably. I also thought Ryan (and/or the producers) were really mean about the elimination. “Last year we didn’t cut anybody. This year, goodbye Michael.”
Comment by Robin — April 11, 2008 @ 12:45 pm
I thought that’s what Seacrest said..and I thought to myself, no he didn’t.
MJ was not THE best, but he certainly didn’t deserve to go this early. Phyllis I agree, people thought he’d be safe and didn’t vote….it happens.
Any of you AI fans gonna get tickets to see Carrie Underwood? Seagate 6/10, tickets on sale tomorrow a.m.

Holy crap! You called that shocker elimination all right! Now, predict for me who will win the whole she-bang….LOL
Comment by Shawna — April 12, 2008 @ 3:32 pm
Prediction as to who will win the overall? Hmmmm. That’s a toughie. The obvious choice would be one of the Davids. I prefer David Cook, but I think the teen/tween set are all about David A., and they have a tremendous amount of power…those little tweeners.
