Getting Kicked Out of Jo-Ann Fabrics

Ok, so I wasn’t really kicked out. Mostly just sneered at….ok, so not exactly sneered at, but in my head that is totally what happened.
I went in there with my daughter to get stuff for a non-crafty project. I do not craft. Ok, not true…I can’t craft. It always turns ugly and messy. But, I immediately understood the look in my little girl’s eyes as we walked past rows of material festooned with unicorns, horses, rainbows, lolli-pops etc. She was literally spinning with possibilities. New blankets, new curtains, new couch covers (our living room sofa would ROCK if we re-upholstered in rainbow unicorns).
“Sorry babe, I’m not that kind of mom. I wish I were. We’re here to get some glitter and sharper scissors.”
I could tell she was a little sad.
I, of course, am about as lost at the fabric store as I am in the tool department of home depot (luckily, I’ve got connections for the latter). All of the cashiers knew it. I swear they could sense my non-craftiness a mile away. If it was Studio 54 in 1977, they never would have let me past the velvet rope.
But…I found the glitter (after asking 3 people).

Yeah, I know what you mean! I’ve been d-r-a-g-g-e-d into fabric stores for decades (up until this marriage where it’s decidedly not horrible like before) and been in there for 2 - 3 hours with nothing to do! Fabric stores (and yes, sometimes, women’s clothing stores) seriously need “man caves” where we can hang out for however long we’re in there. Oddly, clothes shopping with Mary is actually enjoyable because she honestly wants my opinion.
BTW, next time, for craft stuff (even just a little glitter), go to Crafts 2000 on Dixie south of Monroe. They make life a lot nicer.

The marriage or the fabric store (I’m going with the fabric store still being on the end of horrible)?
If there’s a man-cave at the fabric store, I’m goin’ in it too. The “why can’t you be like other mommies” look was priceless though. And supportive like I am, I laughed to tears at her

No, the fabric store isn’t as horrible as it was, as she gets what she needs and that’s it. Not only does she hate some kinds of shopping too, but she’s also not poring over patterns for hours on end either!

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loathe going into those places because of the winces and sneers you get from the “all mighty crafters” in there.
When I look at those rows of fabric I think, with my luck if I touched one they’d all fall like domino’s LMAO
BTW they carry glitter and crafty scrapbooking stuff at the dollar store right next to Joann fabrics. Scissors I don’t know about, but I found the sewing sharp ones at Kroger believe it or not.
Here’s to the non crafty girls! Cheers!!

Yeah…I know…but I was also looking for a certain type waterproof fabric (long boring story, not blogworthy). Trust me, I avoid fabric stores if I can help it.
I also don’t do well at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. Though I love SAYING Hobby Lobby and I think the store is kind of fun.

Robin,
Next time save yourself the agony and just go to Crafts 2000! Not only do they have glitter, but there are all kinds of scissors to pick from and no bolts of fabric in sight!!!!

I would also recommend C2K in Moroe for what you’re looking for.
It’s amazing how many out-of-town people are enthralled with that store.
