Michigan Notable Author Tour
February 12th, 2008 Posted in UncategorizedWell, I can’t believe I haven’t posted in two weeks….what can I say, life can be complicated….but I have great news…our Bedford Branch of the library system has been chosen to participate in the Michigan Notable Author Tour. The Michigan Notable Books program annually selects 20 of the most notable books published in the past year. The titles must relate to Michigan in some way and the 2008 list is truly representative of what our patrons like to read. There is everything from Eric Villegas’ ode to Michigan cooking, Fork in the Road: Michigan Culinary Adventures to a true crime title about the 1969 Ann Arbor murder of Jane Mixer. Take a look for yourself at http://www.mi.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17447_39583—,00.html.
Anyway, Tyree Guyton of Detroit will be visiting our library in the late spring to talk about his book, Connecting the Dots: Tyree Guyton’s Heidelberg Project. Book signing will follow. Here’s the “official” summary from the Michigan Notable Book panel:
A remarkable story of an artist’s quest to transform his urban neighborhood, Connecting the Dots explores both the beginning of Tyree Guyton’s journey as an artist and his impact on his Heidelberg Street neighborhood in Detroit. The book covers the controversies surrounding the project, the hopes of the artist, and a glimpse at the plans for the future.
Sounds fascinating…if you want more information about Tyree Guyton, take a look at http://www.heidelberg.org/. In a month or so, look for a flier at your local Monroe County Library System branch with the date of the program. Remember… make it your destination…..there’s always something happening @ your library.
If you must venture out, be safe tonight in our cold, snowy Michigan. Better yet, stay home and read a book!
