I have 2 books by the same author. Mystic River and Gone Baby, Gone. Both are page turners and the kind of books that you want to hurry up and see what happens, but don't want it to end. Nail biters!! I also love The Secret Keepers Daughter.(or is it Memory Keeper?) It really makes you think about morality and hindsight. My all time favorite is Gone with The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie Flags of Our Fathers and it was excellent! Not what I expected. It showed the negative ide of a positive story. I highly recommend it

I agree with Flags of Our Fathers. I think it permanently changed me in ways that are hard to describe.

Also, Team of Rivals, the story of Abraham Lincoln's presidency, by Doris Kearns Goodwin, was a life-changing read. I finished it in August and I still think about it.

This may sound silly, but one of my 2007 reading highlights was Harry Potter. When all the publicity about the seventh book started, I decided I need to read it. But I had only read books 1 and 2. So I had to quickly read 3-6 before I could read The Deathly Hallows. It took a couple months, but I enjoyed the experience.

I agree with Judy about Freedom Writers Diaries. Truly inspiring. I'm now reading a book about the Balco steriod investigation written by two reporters from the San Francisco Chronicle. Can't remember the title. It's good. I want to read more fiction in 2008, but I never know what to read so I always turn back to nonfiction. A few years back I read Walter Stegner' "Crossing to Safety" and remembered why fiction is so good to read. Any suggestions from fellow bloggers about fiction I should consider would be appreciated...Reader Dave

I'd have to go with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. So much in fact, that your post inspired me to order it from Amazon so I can read it to my kids. Gotta love those Herdman kids.
