One highlight for this blonde is occasionally getting to meet celebrities. To me this guy is a giant. I LOVED his character and show. I interviewed him a while back. He was doing a speaking engagement on behalf of raising awareness for MS. So have you guessed? His real name is David Lander. Yeah, that’s Andrew Squiggman, or Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. He couldn’t have been more gracious. TMZ eat your heart out.
So did you love Laverne and Shirley and what was your favorite episode? Better yet who was the Big Ragoo?

I can’t recall who the Big Ragoo was (I can see the face!), but there were far too many good episodes to have one single favorite. I mean, there’s a reason Penny Marshall is now a decent director. The show jumped the shark when they moved into the newer apartment though. BTW, the way he has his pinky up in that pic is kindy creepy …
Rebecca- told you I checked this site out! This guy came to the station while I still worked there, so that was awhile ago! The Big Ragu was Shirley’s boyfriend Carmine? Was that his name? Pretty good trivia guess if I’m right. For being born in 1981…. damn, I’m good! Hope all is well!
The character was Carmine Raguso, “the Big Ragu”, played by the actor Eddie Mecca. Wow, could that boy dance! Remember? Pretty good recall for someone born in 1946!
I LOVED Laverne and Shirley!!! Funny true story…my daughter’s name is Lola and a few years ago they were bringing back the initials on purses, clothing etc….I bought her a shirt with “L” in rhinestones..reminded me so much of Laverne…of course she didn’t know who it was until they started playing reruns on TV land—good times.
Also, I meet alot of people thru networking in my line of work and I always try to correlate the person’s name with someone famous (as in they look like them) and this year I met a CPA and I always told myself he looks like “Squiggy” LOL
Busia–thanx for sharing Carmine’s real name, never knew it just always knew he was the “hunk” of the show
You will all so find Eddie Mecca (and Squiggy, usually) in most of Penny Marshall’s movies. The one that comes to mind right now is in A League of Their Own. Carmine has a great dance scene with Madonna. Also…Lavern’s daughter has bit parts in most of her movies. She’s Betty Spaghetti. Check it out.
(Meanwhile, my head is chock full of useless trivia like this)
LPC- I agree why’d they move to Hollywood?
Molly - you are good. I was in the 6th grade in 1981. I’m so glad you commented and you are SO missed. Yesterday I answered a million event cancellation phone calls. I bet you can’t forget that!
Busia - You’re in control of the board. (I’m pretending I’m Alex Trabek ’cause you got the right answer.)
Cheryl - Yes Carmine was the hunk but I think Lenny might have been a hidden gem.
Robin - The Milk and Pepsi is on me for taking the cast trivia to the next level.
…make all our dreams come true, for me and you!! (end of the theme song)

Also…I was gonna hold back on this, but if I do, my head full o’ useful trivia will bust. Squigmond. Not Squiggman.
Also, also, if I remember the story from this one, didn’t Squiggy pose “normal” the first time. He “squigged” out for the 2nd shot. I LOVE that.
Finally, it killed me that you got to meet him and I didn’t. But, I can deal. I’ve said this before, if you ever have occasion to run into Donny Osmond and don’t call me, you will be dead to me.
I did once meet Gordon from Sesame Street!
Ok, it’s listed as Sqiggman all over the place. I still believe it is Squigmond. I believe imdb and David Landers’ homepage is wrong! But..ugh.
That’s great about Gordon!

Oh…and also, you can tell I was multi-tasking on that last comment. Bad grammar, bad spelling. Doh! Sorry, I’m going batty grading finals.
You know who he looks like… that guy John so and so from Third Rock from the Sun… at least in that picture and the way he is pursing his lips!
LITHGOW!!!
Temporary Brain Lapse.
