Bowling Stories

Hi there fellow bowlers,

I’ve received emails at sharpshooter300@ymail.com where bloggers have shared their unique bowling stories with me. I enjoyed the stories so much I thought a bowling stories page was warranted so you all could share different stories with each other.

One story that came to mind when I was reading the emails was of a time when I bowled in Pro-Ams with the PBA members. For those of you who might not be familiar with Pro-Ams, they are a tournament where each bowler gets a chance to bowl three games with a different member of the PBA each time. It’s an eye opening experience, especially if you are fortunate enough to beat your Pro bowler. It’s also nice to get pictures taken with the Pro and get their autographs. At the time, I remember Walter Ray being a new PBA member, Brian Voss being one of the stars all the fans wanted to meet (especially the ladies), and Parker Bohn coming onto the scene as a new PBA member. They’re all veterans on the tour now, but back then they were fresh new faces I wanted to bowl with and see if I could beat!

One of the most memorable stories I have about bowling was when I bowled with Pete Weber at Nortel Lanes and had a chance to actually beat the man. I was about 16 years old (I’m now 34 years old) and I had to pick up a 4-7-10 split to beat him. Pete bet I couldn’t do it and razzed me quite about about choking when I left the split. I was so nervous that I started my five step approach on the wrong foot, somehow ended up taking six steps, slid on the wrong foot, but ended up making the split. Talk about beginners luck. It was certainly a sweet victory against him! Pete gave me a hard time about how I converted the split but was great about it overall. He signed books, posters, and napkins after the match. It was such an honor to bowl with one of the greatest PBA members in the world!

Anyone else have any stories they’d like to share?

Roll on,

Rebecca K
