The snowflake debt payoff revolution has begun
The snowflake method of paying off debt has been getting quite the buzz in the personal finance blogosphere.
Dave Ramsey, a popular personal finance coach and radio personality, promotes the snowball plan by which you pay off the smallest payoff or balance due first to create the greatest momentum in your debt payoff efforts.
His philosophy is that, with this plan, you notice results quickly. And when one debt is done, you have a bigger snowball to throw at the smallest remaining debt and so forth.
(On a timely matter for those of you who are waiting for tax refunds, Ramsey recommended a caller use her big tax refund toward her snowball plan on consumer debt, and in the meantime adjust the payroll tax withholding. “As you become debt free, hopefully you will have the cash flow to avoid student loans,” he says on an audio clip linked off that page.)
Now, in October, the blogger at I’ve Paid Twice for This Already wrote Snowflaking – a Primer to explain where she finds the snowflakes to create the snowball to pay off her debts.
There’s been such a response among other bloggers and readers that Paid Twice has created a site dedicated to the Snowflake Revolution. You can find a list of bloggers who have signed up as part of their pledge to snowflake. There are even plans for a personal finance carnival dedicated to snowflakers.
So if you see this badge on someone’s blog:

You know they are collecting snowflakes.
And a lot of snowflakes can add up to … a winter storm warning!

Right now, it looks like the next class in the area is in April in Dearborn. But keep checking Ramsey’s web site if you’re interested.

If anyone’s interested in taking the class now, our church (Monroe Church of the Nazarene) here in Monroe has a class starting very soon, if it hasn’t already… I can call the leaders to see the availability of getting in & catching up with the group!!!

My husband and I participated in Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” at our church – this is an AWESOME (and educating and entertaining) program… I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to get their financial house in order… including paying down those debts!
