Valentine ideas from Carnival of Personal Finance

I usually pick out a few entries in the weekly Carnival of Personal Finance to feature as recommended blogs of the week.

This week, I’ll highlight some of the Valentine’s Day ideas that are posted by bloggers across the Internet …. but do click over to the entire showcase hosted this week by My Dollar Plan and see what else is there. The carnival has 95 participating bloggers this week:

  • My Two Dollars presents 5 Frugal Ways to Make Your Valentine Swoon: “OK, they are not called mixed tapes anymore, but you know what I mean. Two years ago I gathered up every song I could find that had the words “You’re My Best Friend” in them and assembled them on a CD.”
  • Oh My Aching Debts presents Frugal Valentines: A Price Tag on Love?: “I was listening to the local radio station the other day and they were talking about how much you should spend on your valentines day gift. The general advice was that if you have been dating for at least two months, you should spend $60. If you have been dating for more than six months you should spend over $300. I was aghast.”
  • College of Cash presents “I Don’t ‘Do’ Valentine’s Day”: “I hate flowers. Well, I don’t really hate them, but why would you give me something that is going to die in a few days? Nothing says “I love you” more than a handful of dead stuff. Plant some seeds in a flowerpot and put it in the house for it to grow. I like that a lot better.”
