Carnival of Personal Finance: St. Patrick’s Day edition

Lynnae at Being Frugal was the hostess this week for the Carnival of Personal Finance. She presents blog posts from across the Internet with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

Here are some of the great finds in this week’s showcase:

  • The Monevator presents Who’s Your Star Wars Money Hero?: “Yes, circumstances went against him, but Yoda typifies downsized corporate warriors who put too much faith in their company and their pay cheque and not enough aside for a rainy day. And there are a lot of rainy days on Dagobah.” (This is my pick for best blog of the week!)
  • Mr. Debtbeater presents 13 Disadvantages of Living Paycheck to Paycheck: “Having lived paycheck to paycheck for almost 10 years is enough for me to either realize I’ll never be different…or drive me SO crazy that I’m going to SCRATCH AND CLAW MY WAY OUT OF THIS MESS!” (Why is it so hard to take certain money-saving steps, even when you absolutely need to? He explains some of the reasons why.)
  • A Penny Closer presents 6 Easy Ways to Battle Rising Food Costs: “At these prices you simply can’t afford to allow the food go bad before you can use it. I always cook fresh meat dishes in the first few days after shopping, with fish and shellfish being cooked within 1 day of purchase. Pad the end of your week with cheaper and less perishable meals like sandwiches, pasta, frozen meals, and soups.” (I usually do loop bacon, lettuce and other fresh ingredients into two or three dinners in a row.)
  • Lazy Man and Money presents If I Had a Million Dollars (linkified): “If I had a million dollars, I’d be rich.” (Just start singing along to Barenaked Ladies and follow the links.)
  • Savvy Frugality presents You lost your job … now what?: “I had a lot of experience in my field. There just weren’t as many jobs to be had because during a recession, not only are employers not hiring, but they are cutting back on the number of people they keep on the payroll.” (There are some seriously practical tips here.)
