Frugality bloggers share practical tips

The Festival of Frugality this week, hosted by I’ve Paid for This Twice Already, has a From Theory to Practice theme. Here’s what the host said about the showcase:

In our lives now, there is a need for practical applications of frugal principles that we can put to use in our own lives and really see the difference. Hopefully you can not only learn to think more critically about frugality from this festival, but learn several tips you can immediately put into practice in your own life.

Yes, indeedy, a lot of southeast Michigan residents need all the money-saving tips they can get.

Here’s Monroe on a Budget’s picks from this week’s FF, but do click over to the entire list and see what’s posted:

  • Cheap Healthy Good presents Recession-Proofing Your Diet: “During this hour, you can devise a weekly menu, find circular deals online, clip coupons, and map out your shopping trips, all of which could save hundreds of dollars a month.” (Did you read that Detroit Free Press coupon story I linked to earlier today?)
  • Antishay Ventenne presents Thoughts on Clutter (part 3 of 3): “Quality items will last you a long time and give you good use for years. If you own a few quality items, your home will be filled with useful, nice things instead of a bunch of run-down crap.” (If you want to read more on decluttering, check out I Organize You at BlogsMonroe.)
  • The Credit Letter presents The Student’s Financial Toolbox: “Most companies offer discounts to students. With a discount card, you’ll always be able to take advantage of them.” (Think beyond college here: when’s the last time those of you with high school students at home reviewed the list of local businesses that give a discount for good grades?)
