Festival of Frugality 4/22
On Financial Success hosts the April 22 edition of The Festival of Frugality. Aaron at OFS took a different approach to the showcase this week by embedding 55 links into an essay about frugal lifestyles.
I’ll stick to my usual blog roundup format with pointing you to selected posts. But I do recommend you go to the main showcase and read it all! There’s good stuff in this carnival, and some bloggers that you might not have met yet.
- Are You Going to Be This Way The Rest of the Time I Know You presents I am a Stay at Home Mom. Here’s How I Finagled My Finances to Make it Happen: “We thought out what expenses we’d be able to cut/save if I stayed home and which would go up.” This couple planned ahead for their change in lifestyle. If you’re shifting from a two-income family to a one-income family – by choice or by circumstances forced upon you – there are a lot of details you need to consider.
- My Money and My Life presents Not Worth the Gas Money: “Yes, I would agree, if I’m driving 45 miles out of my way, it’s probably not worth my time. But the extra mile down the road to Target? I think it’ll be okay.” I do shop here and there throughout Monroe during the week. There is a huge selection of stores within four-mile range of my home. When I do decide to shop out-of-town, I bunch up those errands as much as possible.
- Save and Conquer presents Grandpa and the Great Depression: “I don’t remember much talk about the Depression while in school, but I did notice that a lot of kids couldn’t go to plays, etc., and were poorly dressed.” Frugal lifestyles seem to be easier to accept when it’s common in your social network, instead of the exception.
- Quest for Four Pillars presents A “Decent” Lifestyle: “To me living beyond your means is a party that is inevitably going to end badly. Eventually you’ll have to radically change your lifestyle once you lose access to the credit you’re abusing.” Hopefully, with all the resources that are available on the Internet and in the Monroe County community, you’re learning less expensive ways to live the lifestyle you want.
- Financial Zip presents Frugal Your Way to Wealth: “We want to appear that we are keeping up with the Joneses. But as I illustrated in our real life example the Joneses are sinking and those who choose to live frugally are not.” Living frugally long before you NEED to will make money last longer when cash is hard to come by.
- Monroe on a Budget presents 10 frugal and eco-friendly ideas: “There’s a time and place for individual cleaning solution wipes and static cloths. But it’s not when I’m doing my weekly house cleaning.” This article got comments even before the festival was posted!
