Detroit News: Food costs hit metro Detroit hard
Detroit News also has this story today: Food costs hit hard as prices continue to rise.
A snippet:
Prices already are high enough for most shoppers. From sports car-driving bachelors to suburban moms to working-class immigrants, Metro Detroiters are getting stingier at the supermarket.
That includes Stacey Shoenbach, a stay-at-home mom of two who’s also switching to the plain white labels of store brands and generics.
As she loaded her Chrysler Pacifica minivan with off-brand tomato sauce, laundry detergent and cereal from a Meijer in Wixom, Shoenbach estimated that buying generics kept her $62 grocery bill for the trip 20 percent lower than if she’d bought brand names or gone to a specialty store.
Be sure to click on the link or pick up your print edition of the newspaper to read the rest of this story. There are some good tips in the sidebar.
I also have a grocery tips sidebar on this blog.
