Fewer travelers on the road this Memorial Day weekend
Friday before Memorial Day is a very predictable day for summer travel stories.
The first holiday weekend of the summer becomes the weekend that summer cottages are traditionally opened for the season. It’s also when enough extended family members have the same day off that a family reunion or camping trip or wedding or birthday party can be hosted around everybody’s schedules.
The thing I always found a bit odd about the timing is … by the time the travel headlines show up in the newspapers and TV news programs, those who are traveling on the holiday weekend have already made their plans or even are already on the highway. (Been there, done that.)
Today, more of you are home, or have drastically changed travel plans, as compared to Memorial Day weekend 2007. A headline roundup:
- CNN: High gas prices lead to fewer Memorial Day travelers.
- USA Today: Gas costs cuts into vacation travel.
- Ann Arbor News: Gas prices to curb Memorial Day weekend travel?
