Kid-friendly summer essentials
MomAdvice intended this post featuring classic summer toys at Frugal Hacks for parents who have young children at home: Keeping Summer Essentials Handy.
But those who have young grandchildren, nieces or nephews will really find her list useful!
My daughter is 18. She’s one of the oldest grandchildren in our family. Most of the grandchildren are age 11 and younger.
My nieces and nephews visit often enough that a couple of years ago, we assembled a box of kid-friendly toys that never go out of style. Our stash includes a mini-golf set, crayons, a cuddly baby doll, tea party set and sidewalk chalk. Another box has some “pink box” Barbie dolls and sturdy doll furniture.
Some of that stuff is hand-me-downs from when my daughter was young. The new toys we did buy retail were purchased in the “cheap toy aisles.”
There was no need for us to get the latest pop culture or electronic toys to amuse our visitors. Such toys lose their “coolness” factor in just a year or two. We’ll let their parents keep up with the trendy stuff.
Instead, we’ll be known as the aunt and uncle who have the cool “old fashioned” toys!
