Michigan Bridge Card = lower state park fees
Those of you who have a Michigan Bridge Card (Michigan’s electronic card for the food stamp program) are eligible for a discount on the vehicle pass fees that are required for Sterling State Park in Frenchtown Township and other Michigan state parks.
According to the 2008 state park gate pass fee schedule, Michigan Bridge Card holders can purchase an annual vehicle pass for $18. (The regular 2008 fee for Michigan residents is $24.) A discounted rate for food stamp families has been in effect since 2004.
If you are a Michigan resident age 65 and older, you qualify for “senior citizen” rates of only $6 for an annual pass.
Be sure to read the rules on the state’s web site if you want to take advantage of the discounts – park employees will want verification that you qualify when you buy the permit.
One of the family-friendly activities at Sterling State Park is a State Park Explorer program that provides educational and nature activities for children. You don’t have to be an overnight camper to participate – State Park Explorer events are open to day visitors too.
