Monroe water rates going up
Water rates will go up by about 21 percent this summer in the city of Monroe.
My co-worker Charles Slat has this story on page 2A of today’s print and e-editions of The Monroe Evening News: Water rate hike okayed.
A snippet:
A typical customer has gone from using about 187 gallons a day down to about 165 gallons a day, he said, due to conservation and other factors.
The increase didn’t sound fair to Melissa Will, a Monroe resident who was among those who commented during a public hearing on the rate increase.
“You’ve urged the public to conserve on water and now, as a penalty for conserving, you want to use that to justify a 21 percent increase?” she said. “To me, it just doesn’t make sense.”
Yeah, it does seem frustrating. I’ll be paying those water bills too.
