Carnival of Personal Finance 6/2

Moolanomy is hosting the June 2 edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance. Here are some of the posts you’ll find this week in the showcase of 98 financial bloggers from across the Internet:

  • Red Stapler Chronicles presents Stop complaining about gas prices: “Instead, I propose that you focus you energy on other ways to make money or save money.” Sometimes you’ve done all you can in one area of your budget and you have to make up the difference somewhere else. Need ideas? Keep reading.
  • Living Almost Large presents Still hungry with food stamps?: “My only guess is that she’s eating a lot of convenience, pre-packaged foods which are easy to make but expensive to buy. And instead of using coupons to buy them she’s paying full price.” Surprisingly, middle class families have an advantage over food stamp families on the grocery budget because an Internet connection and a newspaper subscription can provide a lot of money-saving tactics in terms of coupons, rebate tips, sales leads and recipes for frugal eats. Check out my grocery sidebar.
  • Sound Money Matters presents Debunking the Latte Factor: “True personal finance advice shouldn’t rely on tired clichés that everyone is using. If it were really as simple as drinking the free office coffee, no one would be in debt anymore.” I’ve noticed people who are struggling with finances in southeast Michigan seem to be running out of ideas. Many of the so-called “obvious” solutions don’t work right now – for example, find a second job? Gee whiz, it’s hard enough to find and keep any job in our area. Sell the house and move out of state? Not when you owe more than the house is worth (and that problem isn’t limited to those who had crazy mortgages.)
  • Monroe on a Budget presents The next blogging niche: local money blogs. “Even among bloggers who write broadly as possible to get the interest of a national audience – it’s hard to get away from the geographic realities that influence their experiences and advice.” I do blog with a local focus and have listed several sites, forums and blogs from the Monroe-Ann Arbor-Detroit areas on my blogroll. If you know of any frugal lifestyle or personal finance links I should add from those cities or the Toledo area, e-mail me and tell me about it.
