Carnival of Personal Finance 6/23

Mrs. Micah: Finance for the Freelance Life is hosting the June 23 edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance. It’s a really good showcase this week. Here are some of the posts you will find on all things financial:

  • Funny About Money presents Make biweekly pay work in a bimonthly world. “The September paychecks, due on the 12th and the 26th, are totally out of synch with bill-paying reality, and so there’s no way for an English major to understand what’s what here.” Why can’t all these payroll and bill agencies get on the same schedule? Since that’s not an alternative, she plans out her payroll and bill cycles in advance to make her cash flow work the way she wants!
  • Penny for My Thoughts presents So, you now have a paycheck. “I ran the numbers out of my substitute teaching/temping paychecks, and found out I would have enough if I paid one bill a week. This worked out well for me.” When you get out into more grown-up accommodations, make sure you know and account for all the expenses that were hidden in your on-campus housing bill. Do you have to pay a separate trash bill at your “grownup place,” for example?
  • The Wisdom Journal presents Bad Debt, Bad Job, Rough Life: “Welcome to life. If you don’t plan for it, life will rock your world. Life doesn’t care what you “wish” would happen.” If you read this post, make sure you click on part 2. The story is accompanied by discussion points for both the rough years and the recovery years.
  • Personal Finance Analyst presents Tips for Responsible Hoarding: “Whatever it costs today, it’s going to cost more tomorrow. End of story. It isn’t necessary however to go all insane with it.” There are debates in frugal living circles as to how much food to store up – one month? Two months? A year? My best guess is that we have several weeks on pantry / dry goods items. We did lose almost all of our freezer food during a recent two-day power outage.
