Detroit News: More seek out Crime Stoppers rewards
The Detroit News has this report today: Crime pays off for more Michigan tipsters – Jump in anonymous tips reported as struggling residents seek to cash in on rewards.
A snippet:
“People across the country are feeling the pain,” said Elaine Cloyd, president of Crime Stoppers USA. “I’m seeing gasoline at $4.25 a gallon in some places, which is causing higher prices in the grocery stores. That’s making a difference in the number of tips we get.
“How do I know it makes a difference? Because the people who call are telling us it makes a difference. We’ve had people say, ‘I’ve never called before and I was reluctant to get involved, but I really need the money.’ ”
There were a record 2,940 anonymous tips called in to the Southeast Michigan Crime Stoppers chapter in 2007 …
