Festival of Frugality 6/24
Broke Grad Student is hosting the June 24 edition of the Festival of Frugality. Here are some of the posts you’ll find about frugal living:
- Rather Be Shopping presents 5 Ways to Save Money When Camping: “The state park we stayed at wanted $7 for a small bag of firewood. Ripoff!! Bring your own.” Do check the firewood laws ahead of time where you will be traveling and camping. The Emerald Ash Borer has killed a lot of trees in southeast Michigan and is spreading to other states. Try shopping for firewood close to, but not at, your campground.
- The Sojourner presents Recycled Newspaper Purse: “It took way more time than I would have thought, but I think it turned out quite cute.” You have to see this.
- Not made of money presents Find Grocery Savings in Your Own Backyard: “Very few other cost-cutting methods are as satisfying in as many ways as adding a garden to your family’s way of life is.” My strawberry plants did not grow – they were probably dead when I bought them. But my peppermint plants are thriving. And couple of days ago, I bought a green pepper plant (have you seen the price of peppers at the grocery?).
- My $mall Cents presents Five Frugal Ways to Help Kids Learn a Foreign Language: “Speaking another language will help bridge the gap even if both you and the other speaker speak English. Business wise, this can only be a good thing.” Even if your foreign language skills are rusty, you can promote your child’s interest in other cultures with international cooking lessons, going to an art museum to find beautiful things from other countries or watching DVD movies in the second language channel.
- Monroe on a Budget presents Scrapbooking on a budget: “Punches and stencils and rubber stamps and inks that are useful for many projects are better purchases than sticker sheets that are quickly used up.” I have whittled my sticker collection down to less than half its previous size.
