Festival of Frugality on Money Ning

Money Ning is hosting the June 10 edition of the Festival of Frugality. Monroe on a Budget earned her first “editor’s pick” on a national blog carnival with this showcase!

Here are some of the posts you will find about frugal living:

  • Andrew Heath presents The Unlikely Way to Save Money: “I felt I was running out of ideas fast, and out of hope even faster.” This is a must-read story.
  • Can I Get Rich on a Salary presents Keeping up with the Joneses Redux – Real or Imagined?: “But now that I think about it, their house is a little smaller than ours, and I now recall other decisions they seem to make regularly to try to save money.” My husband was one of the first iPhone customers – but you should see the refurbished / obsolete / hand-me-down equipment that we have for our other home electronic uses.
  • Early Retirement Extreme presents Learning to cook saves at least $5,000 a year: “Try to reach a point where recipes are no longer needed. At that point all you need to do is to look into the cupboard and make something up.” Recipes are great when you have every ingredient listed – but it’s even more helpful to learn when to adapt the recipe to your pantry and when to not even bother trying.
  • Campus Grotto presents Cooking in College: “The next time you are in the library, look for college oriented cookbooks. These types of books have tons of healthy recipes for the college student on a budget.” I had one of those “student recipe” books when I was in college, and got a lot of great ideas for beginner cooking.
  • Monroe on a Budget presents Coupons are not just for junk food: “When you take the time to look through what goes into circulation during the month or two that most grocery coupons are valid, you will be quite surprised at the variety of products you can purchase for less than retail with the help of coupons.” Attention local readers: I listed coupons that came from the Monroe, Detroit and Toledo newspapers.
