Meijer 10 for 10 sale is hit and miss

I just got back home from Meijer in Frenchtown Township, where I purchased 22 items with original retail value of $43.66 for $16.20.

While this tally from Meijer’s 10 for 10 sale might seem pretty good, readers of Monroe on a Budget know I’ve done better than that in recent months at the same store.

What happened?

Well, almost every customer is walking around with the 10 for 10 sales flier. The clerk said it’s been busy. And some of the items I was looking for were sold out – or nearly so! It took me twice as long as I expected to put 22 items in my cart.

I don’t think it’s Meijer’s fault for not stocking, because there were plenty of some items. But I wasn’t surprised that the mandarin oranges would be cleared out – there’s a coupon in circulation for that product.

A coupon on Sweet Baby Rays? Gee whiz, there it is in my coupon box. $1 off. Which would make it free …

Be careful… the sweet baby ray’s (at least the one I had) is for $1 off the larger one or $1 off two of thw smaller one (which is the one on sale)… I’ve gotten burnt on that one in the past. And don’t you just HATE it when you find a useful coupon after the fact?!

You’re right. I have the same coupon.
This sale was tricky because it features products that I normally do have coupons for – but not this time!

Gotcha. I’ve got several duplicate coupons (I get delivery of the MEN, my mom gives me her coupons from MEN & The Blade & I get the coupons from our office delivery of the Free Press) for some of the items on the sale. I think I’m going to go back tonight or tomorrow just to get some of the sale w/ coupon items since they’re such great prices on things I use anyway… fifty cents (or less after the “11th item free”) for a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s is a GREAT deal and we LOVE the stuff….

It’s Friday. I made a second run through Meijer as I was running other errands in Frenchtown Township. Yes, some of the things I was looking for earlier this week have been restocked.
I got $18.98 worth of groceries – 11 items – for $7.40.
I’ve never had that BBQ sauce before, but I did buy two on my coupon.
I also got four cans of Dole mandarin oranges, with two coupons of 55 cents off two cans. Note that if you buy three cans, Dole will give you a 75 cent coupon at the register.
I finally found a loaf of bread too.
I had a coupon for Sunny D, which my husband likes to drink.
There are also coupons in circulation for Pillsbury refrigerator biscuits; but with only two of us at home now, it makes more sense for me to make a small batch of Bisquick biscuits. Yes I had a coupon for that when I bought Bisquick the other day.
Now … while this isn’t a record-breaking 10 for 10 sale in terms of coupon matching, I do have to say it has a big variety of products that really do cost much more if you pay full retail. Who would have guessed, for example, that generic bread would be retailing at $1.89?
