There are a lot of sales and specials at the retail stores this holiday weekend. Some stores are open today.

Yes, I know, most of us have family events to attend. But my husband and I plan to get a couple of errands out of the way before our family’s picnic begins. I’m sure some of you are doing the same thing.

Besides, July 4 isn’t necessarily the date that holiday activities take place this weekend. If you live in Monroe, your fireworks show was last night; and if you live in Luna Pier, your fireworks show and community ceremonies will be Saturday.

Here are the sales fliers that were in my home-delivery edition of The Monroe Evening News on Wednesday:

• Menards has a siding and roofing sale through July 13.
• Home Depot has a promotion through July 6 on Behr interior and exterior paint, primer, stains and waterproofers. $5 off the one-gallon cans, $20 off the 5 gallon cans, with mail-in rebate. There also are specials on painting supplies and equipment.
• Tiffany’s Pizza has a coupon flier.
• Elder-Beerman has a blowout sale on swimwear and sandals in its sale that goes through Sunday. There is also a 40 to 50 percent off all in-stock furniture and rugs.
• Kohl’s has 10 to 50 percent off selected kitchen electrics for its sale through Sunday. Bath towels are 50 percent off. Patriotic tees are $3.49.
