Festival of Frugality 7/1

Budgets are Sexy is hosting the July 1 edition of the Festival of Frugality. Here are some of the posts you will find about frugal lifestyles:

  • Art of the Coupon presents Frugal habits that have improved my life: “It helps to remember that being frugal isn’t all about sacrifice, but instead about doing more with what I have and making wise decisions which improve my life both financially and in other ways!” I like her resourceful attitude.
  • FrugalMomLA presents Is being frugal patriotic? “I found myself thinking about our current economy and whether it’s been part of America’s history to be frugal. And, for the most part, I’d say, it’s been a resounding yes.” Frugality practices, however, depend greatly on what is appropriate to one’s “time and place.” It’s amusing to hear my dad tell the story from his grandparents that “white corn meal was saved for company” … when these days I find no difference in cost between yellow and white corn meal and prefer to cook with yellow.
  • Savvy Frugality presents Grow your own victory garden: “Many people who are getting started with urban gardening make the mistake of going all out and plowing a half acre of their backyard and planting every kind of vegetable known to the Western World.” I started small. The only edibles I tried to grow this year were two pots of strawberries, one pot of peppermint and one green pepper plant. The strawberrries didn’t grow, but I’m saving the ceramic pots and will get new plants next year. The peppermint is very happy and smells good. The pepper plant is growing, so I hope I eat some peppers.
  • Frugal in the Fruitlands presents Let’s not forget Depression is a dirty word: “Stuff builds up, because everything is potentially useful; in the end, this Depression-era hoarder ends up drowning in their own stuff.” If you never use it … was it really useful?
