Festival of Frugality 8/5
Frugal Homemaker Plus is hosting the Aug. 5 Festival of Frugality. Here are some of the posts you’ll find from bloggers across the Internet about frugal living concepts:
- Daddy Financials presents Fun Family Vacations That Don’t Cost an Arm and a Leg: “Speak with the locals and find out the places that they spend their money at.” Lots of great tips in this post for those who think the “stay-cation” concept is not an acceptable alternative and really do want to get out of town for a few days. (Attention local readers: Last year I wrote about how my family did Mackinac Island on a budget.)
- HomeEc101 presents Picky eaters, picky eaters: “Always do your best to keep from creating a picky eater. The future spouses of your children will thank you for it.” My daughter has a few things she doesn’t like – sliced cheese is one, so no grilled cheese sandwiches for her. But she has eaten a lot of really strange stuff over the years. For the most part, if the recipe or dish originates from another country, she will eat it.
- Harvesting Dollars presents Save money on groceries, part 2: “I discovered early on that if I planned my meals I automatically started having less waste, both from ingredients and from leftovers.” Example: cook up some bacon. One night, dinner will be eggs and bacon. The next night it’s BLT. Then whatever is left on that bacon becomes salad topping. By the way, Harvesting Dollars also mentions the Grocery Game. If you are one of my local readers, do check out my Pros and Cons of the Grocery Game. I did some poking around on the site to try to determine how helpful that service really would be for those of us in Monroe County, Mich.
- Money and Values presents Get free cab fare home in these 50+ cities / counties. “If you enroll in such a program, then the sponsor will cover the costs of you getting home if unexpected circumstances interfere with your regular plans.” The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments’ RideShare program is included in Money and Values’ list. For those of you who commute from the southern part of Monroe County into northwest Ohio, Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments has a similar arrangement.

Yes, my brother who has been instrumental in getting me to eat things I would normally never order on my own- squid, eel, and shark for example- will NOT eat beans. He’ll eat any weird thing under the sun, but not something as common as beans.
Thanks for the link love!
