Frugal Hacks on finding Sunday clothes for less
My husband and I are “old-school” on some customs, including wearing “dress up” attire when going to church, funerals, weddings and christenings.
For those occasions, I usually wear the same outfits I wear at the office to work – typically black pants with a dressy top or blazer.
But these days, my husband works in a factory and wears jeans and t-shirts to work. He still keeps one good suit and a couple of dress pants with casual shirts and ties to wear as appropriate.
Our college-age daughter usually wears a casual skirt and blouse on Sunday mornings, which works very well.
If you also consider proper attire to be good manners on such occasions, how can you outfit your family on a budget? Frugal Choice has this post at Frugal Hacks: 3 ways to find Sunday clothes for less.

Find Old School Uniforms. My kids go to public school, but it’s a school that requires uniforms. In addition, there are at least 10 private/parochial schools in my area that require the students to wear uniforms. Here is what I have done that has worked well: I put a free ad in the newsletters of my neighborhood, three other local neighborhoods, and the newsletter of the local Catholic school. In the ad, I asked whether anyone had any boys’ uniforms that their kids outgrew. Nine different families contributed! I not only got my kids free school uniforms from some kids in my neighborhood, but I also got at least a year’s supply of Sunday clothes from a few families whose kids attend the Catholic school. The boys there wear white shirts and navy blue pants, so that’s what my kids wear to church now!
Local readers – I actually have seen boys and girls wearing school uniforms to church on Sundays in Monroe! Don’t be afraid to try it, especially if your children are already wearing those outfits during the week.
And one of my sisters told me awhile back that school uniforms are considered acceptable attire at First Communion ceremonies at one of the Catholic churches in her city in Ohio. Now, I would ask ahead of time at your church before doing this on First Communion Day, because it’s still customary in Monroe for girls to wear white dresses and the boys to wear shirt and tie. But it’s certainly a practical option.
