Money Saving Mom: Lower your grocery bill without coupons

Yes, I love grocery coupons. I’ve been shopping with them for more than 20 years.

That being said, my coupon stash is a bit thin right now. The coupon cycles do fall off from time to time.

I have said more than once that you want a lot of different colors of crayons in your frugal living crayon box. Sometimes one crayon works better than another, given the circumstances of the day or the week.

So if you are looking for other ways to beat the cost of groceries, check out what Money Saving Mom has posted about Lower your grocery bill without coupons.

Yes, I’ve done some of the tips mentioned by the blogger and on her comment board. I regularly do:

  • Buy groceries from Angel Food Ministries.
  • Write out my dinner menus two to three days in advance.
  • Plan my grocery purchases based on the sales fliers.
  • Cook from scratch as much as possible.
  • Cook in my Crock-Pot at least once a month (Just my husband and I are home now and we are on different work shifts. But when I have family-size dinners to cook, that Crock-Pot is used three to four times a month).
  • Bought groceries from the “clearance” rack (I got four boxes of brownie mix at the clearance shelf at Meijer in Monroe a couple of days ago.)
  • Bake or cook a bigger batch of ingredients than what I need immediately, and then freeze the leftover food and treats for later use.

I have also shopped at Aldi, but that’s not a regular thing with me.

And there are two Community Supported Agriculture farms in the area – one in Monroe and one in Milan.
