Festival of Frugality 9/23
The Sept. 23 edition of the Festival of Frugality is hosted by My Two Dollars. Here are some of the blog posts you’ll find about frugal living:
- FruGal presents Is frugal the new black? “Whereas a couple of years ago a couple of my friends would have rather died than admit they were broke (well maybe not died… but would have opted for serious credit card debt as the preferable alternative), now there’s a sense that everyone’s going through hard financial times together.” I met up with some friends recently whom I haven’t seen in several years and are starting to connect with again. One friend told me, “Well, we lost our house, so we’ve moved back in with my parents.” Would anyone have said that three or four years ago, even if it was true?
- Living Almost Large presents Frugal Baby Tips: “I gave them a practical gift of diapers, baby shampoo, lotion, oil, powder, wipes, diaper rash cream, ear cleaners. Using coupons and sales I got it all for a very expensive price of $22!” My mother was once honored with a “diaper shower,”: courtesy of some very practical-minded friends.
- I’ve Paid Twice for this Already presents Just because you clip it doesn’t mean you have to buy it: “I left the carefully clipped coupon on the shelf for someone else who might want it.” You need to do the math in the grocery aisle as to the bottom line price. Sometimes the product is at such a good purchase you should grab as many items as you can. Sometimes the product isn’t worth your money even with a coupon.
- The Personal Financier presents How can they possibly afford that?:”There really aren’t as many people living the good life as we are led to believe by both our brain and advertisements.” Besides, do you really know what else that person isn’t spending money on? I shied away from posting about my husband’s iPhone purchase because, well, such extravagance wasn’t “frugal.” But the man has earned enough frugal brownie points to have one expensive toy.
- Monroe on a Budget presents Kroger is part of Campbell’s eLabels program. “You can register up to five schools, so if you have children or grandchildren at multiple schools your label points can be split up.” I set up my card to contribute to my nieces and nephews’ grade schools.

Hi, thanks for the mention! It definitely seems that people are more open to talking about this sort of thing these days – a good thing, I think, to get away from the ‘Keeping up with the Jones” attitude of the 90s.
