Toledo Blade: Bedford scrapbooking store closing

One of my scrapbooking buddies just sent me this link:

Toledo Blade: Lambertville hobby store closing – last of the local independents

A snippet:

After more than a half-dozen years, Magical Memories – the last independently owned scrapbooking store in the Toledo metropolitan area – is about to close. The store, in the Kroger Plaza in Lambertville’s central business district, soon will become another victim of a sagging economy, Mary Miller said.

“When you have a choice to put gas in your car and go back and forth to work, or do your hobbies, that plays a role in it,” she said.

Yes, I was once one of Mary’s regular customers. Yes, I once shopped at every store listed in that newspaper article.

Although I do still scrapbook and make handcrafted cards, I can’t afford to spend a lot of money on craft supplies right now. My purchases for the better part of three years have been tape and bulk cardstock, and a limited amount of supplies for specific projects.

Here are my tips for scrapbooking on a budget.

I really hope that their is a miracle that can save mary’s store! scrapbooking is one of the best hobbies anyone can participate in. I read the comments and its evident that mary’s shop has brought joy to many people. god speed to you mary- its a wonderful business that much like other businesses is suffering the economy. how sad that we all pay so many taxes, in such a great country that small business which have always been the back bone of this country go first. :(
