Carnival of Personal Finance 10/6
The Carnival of Personal Finance for Oct. 6 was hosted by Girls Just Wanna Have Funds. Here are some of the posts you’ll find on all things financial:
- The Passive Dad presents Free creative ideas to help friends facing foreclosure or bankruptcy: “You can offer to watch their kids at your house and let them have a night to catch-up.” There are a lot of practical tips here that are good for friends at any stage of tight finances. There was a time, when, my best friend knew my husband and I were very short on funds. She gave us tickets to see her latest theater show. It was the first time in months that husband and I had been out.
- Saving to Invest presents Foreclosure rescue scams – coming to your neighborhood: “If the person supposedly trying to help doesn’t want to spend the time to understand your situation and starts asking for a fee off the bat then this is a clear prelude to a rip-off.” Do you remember the barrage of unsolicited mail you got shortly after you bought your house? And what did you do with those “offers?”
- Miss Thrifty presents Make do and mend: Vogue for the credit crunch bunch: “These little booklets have been hanging around for decades, unwanted and unread, gathering dust in attics and mouldering on charity shop shelves while we’ve been out spending and splurging on overpriced frivolities and cheap tat.” Even if certain tactics no longer make sense today, one has to admire the resourcefulness that still shines through the homemaker tips from years ago.
