Frugal challenges – location and circumstances
The Frugal Village site has this post – Frugal challenges: locations and circumstances.
A snippet:
Often, frugal strategies simply won’t work well depending on where you live or personal circumstances. For example, some people can’t hang clothes out to dry on a clothesline because of neighborhood restrictions, but you can still dry indoors.
Although you might not be able to apply some frugal tips, there are still plenty of others you can use, so don’t give up too soon. Instead of focusing on what you can’t do, concentrate on what you can.
Yes, there have been times when I’ve read an article, blog or web site aimed at a national audience and just wanted to scream at some outrageous advice, “But you can’t make that trick work in Monroe, Mich.!”
Example: Have you ever read stories about coupon queens who can get triple coupon values and therefore bring home oodles of groceries for pennies? Oh, please. I’ve never found a triple coupon deal in Monroe. In fact, the Monroe coupon queens are all abuzz when we find temporary coupon specials that double coupons up to $1. The standard promotion at most of our stores is double-up-to-50 cents.
That being said, I’ve posted quite a few examples of shopping trips with great deals I really found in Monroe. Some of my readers – Shawna and Anna among them – have also posted their local shopping brags on the comment boards. So, yes, it is very much worth your effort to clip coupons when grocery shopping in Monroe!
Now, while I do focus very much on my local community on Monroe on a Budget; you will find that family circumstances do vary. I do not, for example, have any use for information on diaper specials or senior citizen discounts. But you might.
So pick out the details you personally can use to keep your family expenses down.
And if you see a really great tip here that your friend, sister, neighbor or co-worker could use … send her the link.

Since you’re talking about coupon shopping & recent brags, I wanted to share my recent Kroger trip… I had rain checks for Carnation Evaporated Milk & Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate mix from the “mega event” they recently had… I had multiple coupons (thanks to my MEN subscription, mom’s 2 subscriptions & the Freep @ work)… got 8 cans of evaporated milk & 2 boxes of hot chocolate for $0.40!! Oh – and btw – I recently ran into someone who said that Aldi’s in Toledo (Alexis between Detroit Ave. & Telegraph) has had, EVERY WEEK, for at least the past several months, milk for $1.99 / gallon & eggs for $0.99 / dozen… I was down there last week & this was in fact the case… a great stop if you happen to be in the area!
