I’ve noticed the used book shelves at The Book Nook, 42 S. Monroe St., downtown Monroe. It wasn’t until earlier this week when I was making a book purchase, however, that I learned where all those used books come from.

This is a book swap program with store credit for used books!

Here’s the deal, from the Used Book Policy flier distributed at the store:

If you have used paperbacks that are clean and in good condition, bring them in.

Each paperback we accept earns you up to 25 percent of the cover price in credit. We are NOT taking hardcover books at this time. Used book credit can be used on used books only. Credit may not be used on one-line used books. For example, if your used book purchase totals $10, you can use up to $5 in credit.

Books NOT accepted include textbooks, Harlequin and Silhouette-type romances, and any “dated” books like travel guides, price guides, etc. Books without a cover, that are not clean or with loose pages are not acceptable.

Use your credit. Up to 1/2 of your total used book purchase can be “paid” for with your credit. For example, if your used book purchase totals $10, you can use up to $5 in credit. Used book credits can be used on used books only. Credit may not be used on on-line used book purchases.
