MCOP can help local families apply for prescription assistance

The Monroe County Opportunity Program has Certified Medicare/Medicaid Counselors available to assist Monroe County, Mich., residents with Medicare information, eligibility requirements, and application forms.

Single people who receive less than $1,300 a month, and have less than $12,440 in assets; and married couples who receive less than $1,750 a month, and have less than $23,970 in assets, may be eligible to save thousands of dollars a year on their prescriptions.

There is a program through the Social Security Administration.
