Handcrafted ornament ideas

If you are looking for a fun and frugal gift idea this Christmas, a handcrafted Christmas tree ornament is a great option.

It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to make such things.

Emily at Mom Moments recently posted a cinnamon ornament recipe I’m familiar with. Now, as Emily pointed out, it’s OK to purchase the cheap brands of cinnamon at the discount stores because you’re aiming for smell and looks rather than flavor.

And years ago, I used a homemade play dough recipe and some craft paint to make cartoonish depictions of everyone in my immediate family (those ornaments broke after a few years in storage, but were a huge hit!)

But if you want another media to work with, look first in your craft supply bins and sewing boxes at home for leftover bits of ribbon, glitter, glue, stickers, buttons, beads, paint samples, ornament hangers, paper, rubber stamps, wooden miniatures or even cookie cutters.

Then after you see what you’ve already got, walk through the aisles at Crafts 2000, Michael’s Craft Store or Jo-Ann Fabric and I am sure you will find plenty of supplies to finish off your creations. Take any and all craft store coupons that you have set aside, and be sure to check out the clearance aisles. These ornaments are, after all, supposed to be inexpensive gifts!
