Confirmed: Kmart in Monroe MI has double coupon deal this week
Did you hear the rumors that Kmart would do double coupons the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3?
I did.
But I didn’t post them.
I knew from previous experience that the Kmart sales are a market-by-market decision.
I also knew I would even see two different Kmart ads delivered to my home via the Detroit Free Press and The Monroe Evening News. The Freep ad is for the Southgate and Taylor (Mich.) Kmarts, the Monroenews ad is for the Monroe (Mich.) Kmart.
The rumors I heard were for double coupons this week in the metro Toledo area.
The rumors I saw later on the Internet were for select markets and P&G coupons only.
I looked at my newspaper fliers this morning and did not find any mentions of double coupons. Nor could I find any such mentions at the stores I spot-checked on the Kmart web site.
So, what the heck … on my way to work this morning (the Monroe Evening News reporters take turns working on the weekends and today is one of my Sundays) I stopped by the Monroe Kmart and saw a double coupon promotion sign at the customer service desk.
The rules are: Double coupons up to $2, up to 10 coupons per customer per day, up to 4 identical coupons per transaction. No minimum purchase requirement is listed.
I did not have a fully stocked coupon box. I had just cleared out all the coupons that expired on or around Sept. 30. I haven’t clipped the three booklets that arrived with each of my Sunday papers today. I also behind on clipping the hand-me-down coupons that come my way.
I was still able to put $31.18 worth of merchandise in my cart. After nine coupons, I paid only $8.68 for this stuff.
Like I said, I didn’t have a fully stocked coupon box. But the candy I buy at the grocery and discount stores keeps our vending machine spending and cookie purchases down. And vitamins and pain reliever are among the items you really don’t want to run out of.
Besides, do you have any idea how much your family spends per year on cleaning supplies, personal care products and remedies? Those items can take a lot more bite out of your “grocery” budget than you probably expect.
Now, keep in mind Kmart has another discount program that’s also very beneficial. Anyone in Michigan who receives unemployment benefits can sign up for the Kmart Smart Assist program. It looks like the program is starting to be expanded to other states as well.
P.S. If you like to read coupon match recommendations before you shop, Common Sense with Money has done some of the math for a Kmart double coupon deal.

Wow, I’m so glad I “stumbled” across your blog. Thank you for the info. Just getting ready to run up to our Monroe St Kmart. I have a ton of coupons. Trying not to hardly spend a dime. Taking DD, DH and hopefully one of her friends. That should do it. Last time on double Q day I spent $4.24 for a cart and a half of stuff.

Good luck Dawn!
Following up … It is a common retail situation to put quantity restrictions on per customer per day. This is not just on double coupon deals but also on other special promotions.
It’s fair to expect customers work within those rules. From the customer’s perspective, you don’t want someone else to buy up all the good deals before you have a chance to get to the store. I’ve been disappointed at an empty grocery shelf because somebody grabbed all of this or that before I arrived.
One way to work around the amount restrictions is shop again at that the store on another day during the sale, and I’ve been known to do that. This won’t work on certain CVS Pharmacy deals that are coded to your shopper card and have a quantity limit for the entire week, but most store promotions are based on quantity per day or per transaction.
Other families tag team and split up their grocery purchases so that mom checks out with this, dad or daughter checks out with that. As long as the checkout rules are “per customer” rather than “per family,” that tactic is also technically within the rules.
