People know they need to cut expenses. The hurdle is in how.

I think I’ve read one too many financial-related press releases and story pitches relating to the start of the new year.

They all start sounding the same with suggestions that are intended to be helpful in terms of ideas, but don’t discuss the how and why.

I think everyone would love to cut expenses so that they can save money, pay down debt, build a cash cushion, make up for higher taxes, make up for higher cost of living, or spend their money in another direction.

But unless there are practical details referenced or included as to how a family can cut out of pocket expenses — such as direct links to the current homeowner refinance programs, a list of where to find the Mom 2 Mom resales in a given community, or a show and tell on a coupon organization method — any such “suggestions” are of limited use.
