Cost of apples: 50 cents each.
I paid 50 cents each for two apples today at Kroger in Monroe, Mich.
The reason I bought individual apples, rather than an entire bag of apples, is there are only two adults in our home. I don’t like tossing out fresh fruit or vegetables, and it’s convenient enough for me to pick up produce any day of the week. Therefore, I buy only a few pieces or a pound of berries or grapes at a time
The apples will be eaten this week.
It was 50 cents for a piece of fruit marketed to lunch box audience. If that’s what you or your child wants for lunch, that’s fine. The apples look delicious. That’s why I bought them.
But if your decision to brown bag is based on the cost of food, it’s time to price out everything you’re putting in that lunch box and determine what you’re really spending on the brown bag ingredients.
